OLQA was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Pope Francis on April 21, 2025. Pope Francis had a special connection to the school, as he visited the school on September 25, 2015. OLQA was honored to make the PIX 11 News on Wednesday 2/26/25. Our school was featured due to Pope Francis' health concerns and the 10 year anniversary of his visit to the school. The story of OLQA grad Shaila Cuellar and her brother Francisco, named after Pope Francis, truly captures the impact and legacy of the Pontiff's visit on our school community. Additionally, the entire school community has been praying for his improved health both in Morning Prayer and through Rosary's during Religion Class. Click title for video.
We are extremely proud of the Class of 2025 upon news of their High School acceptances. We have had 8th grade students accepted at 14 different Catholic High Schools including Dominican Academy, Notre Dame High School, Xavier High School, Fordham Preparatory High School, and Cristo Rey NY High School.
Additionally, we were greatly honored that one of our 8th Graders, Ruqayyah, was awarded a full ride to attend the Brearley School on the Upper East Side. The website niche.com ranks Brearley as the Number 1 All-Girls School in the entire nation!
We are excited for another great CYO Basketball season at OLQA! We now have 3 teams playing in Manhattan CYO this year: Boys JV (Grades 5-6), Boys Varsity (Grades 7-8), and, for the first time in school history, a Girls Team (Grades 5-8). On 12/13, we continued our annual tradition of the OLQA Christmas Show. Thanks to the hard work of Mr. Jones and all the teachers, the students put together a wonderful show.
