As our students enter Middle School in 6th Grade, OLQA shifts to a departmentalized model to prepare our students for high school. Consisting of a course load of English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Religion, Physical Education, and Performing arts, our upper school teachers work to build the strong academic habits and self-discipline that lead to success in high school and beyond.
This can look like a reading circle in ELA, a debate in social studies, or an experiment in science class. We know that our students learn best as they are actively involved in an activity, not merely passively receiving information.
We are launching a new initiative focused on personalized learning for all our upper school students. Through the use of adaptive software, students will have the opportunity to have differentiated content in literacy and math targeted to their personal needs. Not only does this provide an opportunity for students to receive extra help just for them, but also gives opportunities for them to extended an learn new advanced content to push them to new levels.
Our high school readiness initiatives inspire students to maximize their gifts and craft a vision for their future, providing them the resources and knowledge to become confident and capable leaders, within our school and beyond.
By working with students and families, we open doors to our families that give opportunities to access some of the best schools in the entire city. Working in partnership with our families, we have students currently participating in such elite programs as the INES Program at the Loyola School, the Oliver Scholars program, the REACH Program at Regis High School, and the TEAK Fellowship.
